Covid 19

Covid Awareness

In the last few months, the world has been turned upside down by a highly contagious virus called Covid-19.  Ten years from now Covid is going to be in history books and we will be able to say that we survived it.  In the effort to lessen the amount of people that get sick, we were ordered to stay at home and to not go out unless necessary.  The reason for this was so that hospitals won’t get flooded and we can begin to flatten the curve.  This quarantine order was world wide so nobody was alone in this.
To be prepared people need to buy things that will assist them during these times.  Some of these items are bandages, food that will last and hand sanitizer.  People also need to buy toilet paper as the world has gone crazy for toilet paper.  This seems like a strange thing for people to worry about.  When in the store, you will have to wait until eight as the seniors get to shop first.  Safely stock up on essential items but do not over react and hoard unnecessarily.

You can prevent getting sick by self isolating yourself, staying 6 feet away from other people and by not interacting with people who don’t live in your home.  You need to wash your hands for at least twenty seconds and use hand sanitizer when you can’t wash your hands.  Many stores have limited cash use and you can only use credit cards in these stores.  You should try not to go out more than you need to.  Covid is a terrible sickness and by following these suggestions you will help to flatten the curve and end this sooner.

Case for Christ

Chapter 1

It talked about some of the questions I've wanted to know the answer to and I'm glad it does because it is sometimes a confusing topic.  It asked us how we know that the bible isn't just a hoax well because there is so much evidence and God has told us that it is true.  The main point is that Jesus died because everybody thought he was lying, would somebody else die for a lie?

chapter 2

This chapter was about how Jesus could not have used hypnotism.  This was by far my favourite chapter and it was very interesting and made me want to read more.  It gave many reasons why Jesus could not have used hypnotism and they all made a lot of sense.

Courthouse Assessment

Name:          Mikayla Watson                    Grade:      5               Date of Law Court Tour:April 17

1.      Was this your first time visiting the Law Courts?
    Yes

2.      Which part of the Law Court Tour did you find the most interesting? (Tour of building, tour of actual court rooms, Sheriff’s Talk, Judge’s Talk, Lawyer’s Talk, court case observed, other).      And tell why it was most interesting.
The most interesting part was probably watching the court cases.  It was intriguing and interesting to watch.

3.      Tell about something you learned from the Sheriff’s talk:

I learned that tazers only stun for 5 seconds and that with pepper spray you need to spray an "X" across the face so that you can get one eye and a nostril and then the other.  Another thing I learned was that he was lucky that he became a Sheriff because when he became a Sheriff there was a one in 5000 chance that you could become one.

6.      Choose one trial that you observed today and answer the following:

-          Was it a civil or a criminal trial?

-          Was there some terminology used in the courtroom that you were not familiar with?

-          Describe what the case was about.

I enjoyed a criminal trial that was about a shoplifter who was defending herself.  She was having some trouble trying to explain it but the judge helped her the best she could an she got to take a 30min break.  I enjoyed this case because I could understand it better than some of the others.  When the judge delivered the verdict in another case, I found it hard to understand.

7.      Now that you have seen our judicial system in operation, how does this make you think and feel towards any of the following: (safety in our community, trustworthiness of judges, people who are accused of a crime, the work of a sheriff, the work of a lawyer,

the role of addiction in many court cases, or other thoughts or comments you have.)

The judicial system helps safety in our communities in many ways because they can help to keep people off the streets and can also get rid of criminals.
Overall, it was really interesting and most of the things I didn't understand, I got answers too.

Egg experiment

Today we did an experiment.  We put different amounts of vinegar and water into plastic cups and then put 6 eggs in each of the solutions and the waited exactly 5 minutes.  I would say that the best one would probably be the third one down from the left.

Today I made color milk that runs from soap.

                                                         Ingredients:

Milk, Food Coloring, Q-Tips, Soap and a small bowl/pan.

     Step by Step

#1 Pour a little bit of milk in the bowl/pan.

#2 Drip in as much food coloring as desired just don't overdo it.

#3 Take a Q-Tp and put a drop of soap on it.

#4 Dip the Q-Tip in the milk.

                                                             Result

If done correctly the food coloring should retract from the Q-Tip causing the Q-Tip to stay untouched by the food coloring.

Letter-English 5

                                                                                                     August 6 1858

Dear Governor Douglas,

My name is Chief Swift Fox.  I am from 100 Mile House in British Columbia.  In some circumstances change is good, but the recent changes of the white men coming in search of gold, have affected me and my tribe. Since they arrived, they have caused much damage.  Sadly, I have not been able to do the things I am used to like worship my spirits because of the dreadful noises of the endless construction and gunshots.  It is hard to make my traditional food because the white men disrespectfully steal from my crops.  I don’t think they’re trying to be harmful but it feels like it.

Unfortunately, 30,000 white men have arrived and I just can’t take it.  My family life has changed in so many ways that I don’t know where to start.  Before, we used to have quiet family dinners every Saturday and Sunday night.  Now each dinner we get poor white men abruptly asking for food and we don’t have much left. Because of the white man, who are taking over, I worry about the safety and culture of my children and the people of my tribe.  Safety and culture are two very important things to us and they have been taken away.  I think that even if the white men go away, the effects will linger for the rest of our lives.

One of the problems is we have to move our camp frequently because of the white men.  Rudely, they have taken over many of our aboriginal camps.  At least I would like to have a safe quiet place to do the things that we are used to.  Because we were here first, I would like to ask for space to justly live in peace.  I don’t want to start a war because we must keep the peace and stay out of each other’s way.

At least something to think about. thank you for your consideration.

                                                                                                      Sincerely,

                                                                                                             Chief Swift Fox
